Ianto’s Stairwell Tour 

In this month’s release of the Torchwood monthly range, Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd) is making a deal with a couple of amateur traders in alien artefacts, Dean (Robert Vernon) and Anthony (James Glyn), when trouble arises – they can’t find the van… 

It’s not that they can’t remember which floor it’s on; one of the artefacts has activated a trap, stretching the car park staircase to infinity. Will they ever find their way out, or will they succumb to madness and turn on each other? Or, will the monster get them first? 

This 60-minute full-cast audio adventure is set during Series 2 of the Torchwood TV series.  The cast also includes Alex Hewitt as the Nightmare.

Tonight’s the night for Anthony and Dean. No more pruning old people’s gardens. No, they’re about to hit the big time. 

They’ve an alien artefact, they’ve got a guy on the inside, and tonight they’re going to break into Torchwood and steal everything. All they have to do is find their car. 

 

Writer Roland Moore, creator of the BBC TV series Land Girls, makes his Torchwood debut with this episode. He said: “The idea of this story came from my love of mazes. As a kid, I’d get my parents to take me to any place where you could get lost in a maze – and yet there was a way out. For poor Dean and Anthony, there’s no way out of this maze! 

“The other things that spurred this story were my love of M. C. Escher and the episode of Seinfeld where the characters are trapped in a car park! They’re pretty nightmarish places, car parks, and if this gives people a moment of unease the next time they go into one, our job will be done.” 

Actor Gareth David-Lloyd added: “Ianto has always had that darker side to him – not so much that he's cruel, but he enjoys seeing people getting their comeuppance. You see a glimpse of that sadistic quality in this story.” 

And, producer James Goss said: “Roland’s written an adventure that’s absolutely Torchwood – down-to-earth, a little grubby and sometimes sordid. Lots of sci-fi stories have done time loops but no-one’s done one in a smelly carpark stairwell before!” 

Torchwood contains adult material and may not be suitable for younger listeners. 

Ianto's Inferno is the 91st release in the Torchwood monthly range.
