The Big Finish app returns with a free story!

Get a complete full-cast Doctor Who audio adventure for free! 

Big Finish is celebrating 25 years of Doctor Who audio drama by releasing multi-Doctor adventure Doctor Who: The Four Doctors completely free to all registered customers from today. This story can now be downloaded here and enjoyed on any compatible device, via the Big Finish Audiobook Player. 

Regular Big Finish listeners will know the Big Finish Audiobook Player recently experienced technical issues, which required a temporary workaround. 

However, the good news is that a fix has been developed, tested and is now live. 

To update your Big Finish Audiobook Player, please follow the following steps: 

1. Install/update the app

Point your device to the relevant app store at the following links to download and make sure you are using the most up-to-date version (listed below):

The Big Finish App on iOS version 2.7.0 (2173)

The Big Finish Audiobook Player is only supported for updates on iOS 12 and higher.

The Big Finish App for Android on the Google Play Store version 20201

The Big Finish Audiobook Player is only supported for updates on Android 8.0 and higher.

Unfortunately, the Big Finish app is not currently available to Kindle Fire users due to Amazon restrictions in the audiobook app category.

2. Rebuild your library

Log in to your customer account on the Big Finish website here. 

If you followed the workaround instructions for the app published on 30 August 2024 and would now like to unhide all your previously purchased releases in the updated Big Finish Audiobook Player, please click the "Unhide all" button on this page. 

Click the "Rebuild download list" link on this page. 

3. Refresh your library in the app. 

Open the Big Finish Audiobook Player on your device and select "Purchased" from the menu. 

Pull down to refresh the screen. 

You should see a message saying "Please Wait: this may take a while" and a percentage bar signifiying the progress as your library is refreshed. 

Once complete, your app will function as normal. For further troubleshooting of the updated app, please read the FAQ here. 

4. Get your free download.
